My Love Story

I have something personal to share with you all. About a year ago, I fell in love, extremely in love. I need my love every morning. I never forget about it, I can’t function without it. 201106050837.jpg

Breakfast, I love you.

I realized how strong my love is when I woke up this morning slightly cranky and tired. I immediately decided to skip early morning yoga and thought I should take a complete rest day. I stumbled downstairs, made a yogurt oatmeal bowl and within 2 minutes of eating felt better and ready to take on the day.

I know not everyone shares my love, but oh I wish they did! I actually have never really been a breakfast skipper however for most of high school and my freshman year of college the options were basically

201106050844.jpg 201106050844.jpg

201106050845.jpg ONLY and apple….

Or of course if I are breakfast in the dining hall something like this

201106050848.jpg 201106050848.jpg

But I also had pizza as an after school snack so there you go.

When I decided to lose weight (initially in the healthy way) the first thing I knew was I had to get breakfast under control. I’d always read about the benefits of eating a good, filling breakfast

  • Breakfast enhances your body’s metabolism.
  • Eating breakfast improves your daily nutrient consumption. Even a simple breakfast can provide you with a great amount of vitamins like vitamin B6, A, minerals like calcium, iron, etc.
  • Breakfast is essential for improving your concentration and productivity throughout the day.
  • It is also observed that eating a healthy breakfast plays an important role in controlling weight gain.
  • Eating breakfast also reduces the risk of heart diseases and is also essential in checking your cholesterol levels.
  • Breakfast keeps you energized the whole day and controls your hunger pangs and snacking urges.

I got into a rotation of either oatmeal of cheerios with skim milk and strawberries, occasionally scrambled egg whites with veggies and on the weekend one big pancake with flavored yogurt and fruit or a whole wheat bagel sandwich with cream cheese and veggies.

This was January of 2010 and I have eaten breakfast every single day since. Obviously my tastes have evolved

Protein Bakes

Microwave Pancakes

Breakfast Cookie Dough

And of course

Oatmeal/ Overnight oats ❤ ❤ ❤

This morning I enjoyed a yogurt parfait, not pictured but it was greek yogurt, oats, rice chex, a banana, truvia, and cinnamon in an almost gone almond butter jar. Delicious =).

Alright, I must decide what to do with my day. Have a great Sunday all!

What’s your all time favorite breakfast? Ignore nutrition! All time, ignoring nutrition… either french toast or a big blueberry muffin with sugar on top like from Panera or Starbucks.

Favorite summer time fruit? Cherries!

Pick my workout please! Power walk? Vinyasa Yoga? Zumba?

Shopping, Gardening and Yogurt

Hello all!! My has it been forever?! I’ve been somewhat busy, my older sister has been home for a total of 5 days in the past 2 weeks before she goes away for the whole summer so I’ve been spending my time catching up with her! We spent some quality shopping time together

The car that we share

She always like to drive =)

We ended up at the best place in the world… TARGET!! Our main goal was shoes

I made away with some boat shoes. Uggo picture but I promise they are cute!

She’s leaving super early tomorrow morning so we had a fun goodbye dinner tonight.

Delicious fluffy bread ( I had two)

All three of us got different salads! Big sis got the falafel (she’s stubborn about her food posing for pictures =P)

PerMa got the Spinach

And your one and only fave permanent blogger got the fatoush! Lettuce, cucs, green pepper, tomato, pickled turnips, and pita chips. It doesn’t look like much but the bowl was deep and it was FILLING, I didn’t even finish it. But that’s ok, I needed room for dessert!!

Menchie’s Frozen yogurt JUST opened near us, of course we had to try it!

Mine on the left, blueberry yogurt with mango and graham crackers and PerMa’s on the right, chocolate with graham crackers and peanut butter sauce. Again with the stubborn sis but she got mango sorbet topped with blueberries and raspberries (she’s vegan).

Annnnnnd in some other news. I have been running.

10 miles saturday, 4 miles with 2 miles of hills today plus body weight exercises.

Cross training, power yoga on Sunday and total conditioning group fitness on Monday.

And gardening.

In my running clothes… after my 10 miler, I then took a nap.

But PerMa did a BEAUTIFUL job!

And eating lots of oats in a jar

Oh, I was also sick one day

So cinnamon and I hung out

And watched three twilight movies in a row. I must have Taylor Lautner, I will have him, mark my words.

I think that’s a long enough post for you all! I’ll try to catch you up on everything over the next few days, be back tomorrow with June goals and a may review/telling you how I failed =)

Do you have siblings? Do you like to hang out with them?

What did you do over memorial day? Yard work? Pool?

Twilight, yes or no?

Shopping Addict

The first thing I always do when I get home (besides hug my bed) is go shopping!

Yesterday I hit up Trader Joe’s and finally today I got to my beloved Whole Foods and Target!

Some of my wonderful goodies

Did I tell you guys I’ve given up cow’s milk? I’ve had it one time in about two weeks (today actaually, I forgot to ask for soy milk when I went to starbucks after yoga)

I’m thinking it should be like naturally more? Anyone know?

Whole wheat graham crackers!! I nearly cried.

I am a big fan of those chocolate bars!

And a pretty decent size for 100 calories!

Whole Foods

Some things I have been excited to try for a while!

I was way too excited about the bulk products. Medjool dates (YUM YUM YUM) raw cashews to make my own cashew butter, buckwheat so I can make breakfast bakes and nooch. Plus fresh ground honey roasted PB.

I had some of the PB and dates for a snack, it was to die for.

And some other random fun things

And I won’t bore you with everything I got at Target but it was a lot of workout clothes.

And a pretty sweet new watch

Today PerMa and I went to a power vinyasa class for a pre-race day workout. I’m not sure it was the best idea because my quads and butt were already KILLING from barbell strength yesterday but I guess I’ll just power through tomorrow?? Yikes…

We then went to pick up our race packets, the race shirts are really neat!

I love my city! =D

I’ve pinned my number on for my first half tomorrow!!

We had a standard pre-race dinner. Whole wheat spaghetti with mushrooms, artichoke hearts, garlic and canned tomatoes sauteed in EVOO. With a little piece of garlic bread.

Need to get some sleep, see you tomorrow post-race!

What’s your favorite grocery store or store in general?

Cross Training and Reflections

Today is officially my last full day at school! Definitely bitter-sweet. It has been a ROUGH year but thank goodness it’s ending on a good note.

I spent 3/4 of the year counting calories, avoiding people, going to bed at 8:30 and finishing my homework weeks (or months) before it was due.

I still love my early bedtimes but I’ve realized I on occasion want to stay up late and be with people! What a shocker I know.

Since spring break I have stopped counting calories, stopped weighing myself, broken most of my food rules (I say most because I still won’t eat trans fat or things with an ingredient list longer than my iTunes library), gotten to a healthy weight and made some amazing new friends. While still managing to keep my grades in check and my workouts where I like them, something my ED told me was not possible (well he can shut the F up, just saying)

Another HUGE accomplishment that I had was going out to dinner with one of my new “friends” . I didn’t look at the menu online first, I didn’t insist on leaving food on my plate (although I did but only because I was full) and I didn’t insist on demolishing it all because if I don’t clearly I “still have an eating disorder”.

As for running, I’m not even trying right now. I tried last Friday and it did not work. My half is on Sunday *gulp* so I’m gently cross training all week and will try to get through a couple of miles on Thursday or Friday once I’m home to see if I can. My other options are dropping to the 10K or being the best cheerleader ever for my mom and sister =).

201105101109.jpg(Rough day)

This is why cross training is so important. Not only to prevent injury and boredom but also to keep you fit during an injury. If I didn’t already know about and love cycling and lifting I would have nothing to do at this time.

Benefits of Cross Training

  • Reduces exercise boredom
  • Allows you to be flexible about you training needs and plans (if the pool is closed, you can go for a run instead).
  • Produces a higher level of all around conditioning
  • Conditions the entire body, not just specific muscle groups
  • Reduces the risk of injury
  • Work some muscles while others rest and recover
  • Can continue to train while injured
  • Improves your skill, agility and balance

I also plan of some good hot yoga classes and a sports massage when I get home! It will be my first one, I’m EXCITED.

Please don’t even ask me what I’ve eaten over the past few days. My fridge currently has cottage cheese, peanut butter, a sweet potato and ketchup in it. I’ve been eating more meals at school so basically it’s been

Hummus sandwiches

Peanut butter in whole wheat tortillas

raw oats and cottage cheese

An Amy’s microwave black bean casserole meal

The first thing I am eating when I get home is a salad the size of my kitchen table201105101119.jpg

Vegetables, please come back to me =(.

I’m almost done packing (without any tears!!) and then off to try to entertain myself for the day!

How do you cross train?

Tell me about finding balance in your life!

How has your year up to this point been?

Does anyone want to mail me some greens? PLEASE?!

How to Win My Heart

Confession, I’ve had a new male friend in my life for about 2 weeks now.

He isn’t my boyfriend yet because of some difficult circumstances (like I’m going how for 3 months in 4 days) but we’re still having a great time for now =D.

How I know this may actually be something? Because he made a surprise delivery to my room today when I was packing

Ladies, be jealous =).

My room supply has been running short but I’ve managed to have some super yummy eats

Sweet potato with yogurt, cinnamon and raisins

And my new favorite mix of peanut flour, cottage cheese, pumpkin, cinnamon and stevia or honey.

This is great with cereal, raw oats, plain or as a dip

After a great 75 minute bike workout this morning I had it for breakfast with two whole wheat pitas.

I tried to run again yesterday and my feet hurt so bad I had to step out of the gym to cry a little, BIG BOO. My half is a week from tomorrow so my plan is to not run at all until Thursday when I’m home. Until then I’ll cross train, yoga, stretch and ice!

Off to pack more!

What’s the nicest gift you’ve ever received from a potential romantic interest? I think this may be it actually…

Favorite sweet potato topping?

>Cure for the Common Cold

*If you are a Beloit student who happens to be reading this, please contact me via facebook or my school e-mail*

Take two parts oatmeal

For breakfast and lunch

One part 3 hour nap

One part netflix instant watch

Every foodie should watch this movie… prepare to be insanely jealous

One english paper draft (very optional)

One thousand plus cups of green tea with lemon

100000000 bottles of water

1 yoga class (if you’re feeling well enough, which I was!)

2 rounds of neti pot

I am already feeling SO much better than this morning! Still super tired but an early bedtime should clear that right up! I also got my taste for veggies back! YAY!

pre-yoga toast w/ cashew butter

Dinner hummus, cucs, dijon and spinach in a whole wheat tortilla

steamed cauliflower, carrots and ketchup on the side

dessert was this x3… I should NOT be allowed to keep my favorite cereal around.

I’ve also realized I didn’t set any April goals!! Well I did in my head but I need to tell you all… in the morning =).

What’s your favorite cereal?

What are some of your April goals, inspire me!

>Bad Blogger Update

I’m so sorry I’ve left you guys hanging for the past few posts! I had an emotional and tired day yesterday and just had to pick some things to not do. I do love you all very much and it won’t happen again!

Here’s what my life has looked like

A long power walk yesterday morning that ended at walgreens and sale on nuts and dried fruit= dream come true

I also got another bag of cherries

Salad with vegan burger, spinach and tomatoes topped with dijon. A brown rice wrap with avocado and chili-lime white bean dip for lunch yesterday.

Burt’s Bees new tinted lip balm… great color and texture, love it!

Post yoga class breakfast for dinner. French toast made with torn up pita and coconut extract mixed with the eggs (so good!) Topped with almond butter and fruit spread, frozen peaches and strawberries on the side.

A few to many of these amazing new cookie find for dessert. Organic dark chocolate oreos, crack ... heaven

Throwing away an entire newly open chobani tub that said it expired April 7… clearly a lie, just rude.

a 3 mile run and 30 minutes of lifting followed by

Last night: oats, lemon tea, vanilla protein powder, chia seeds, two scoops yogurt ( I had another tub)

Topped with strawberries

In my almost gone MaraNatha almond butter jar =(.

These were amazing, I highly recommend making oats with tea for flavoring! For hot oats just put the tea bag in while cooking them, for overnight use the tea as your liquid or part of your liquid.

whew that was long! I will give you a project new nutrition update tonight!

Tell me about your Sunday!

What’s your favorite way to flavor oats?
